My view on the Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer

The announcement was 20 minutes after Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano said on twitter that Manchester United were in advanced negotiations with Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent. Then Fabrizio Romano announced that the deal was successful with united signing Ronaldo, with an eleventh hour deal to steal him from cross town rivals Manchester City.

I was up all that night following the transfer news from when It looked certain he was going to City. It was only a few hours later, when City had seemingly pulled out of the race that reports were circling that former and one current United legends Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Sir Alex Ferguson and Bruno Fernandez had been speaking to Cristiano to lure him back to the theatre of dreams, possibly encouraging him to not throw away his legacy at United with a move to City. Here we go confirmed, the man who tore apart premier league defences in the late twenty tens was back were it all began.

Since his return, the Manchester United global fan base went crazy, social media had his name and the clubs trending inside the top 3 on Twitter for almost 48hrs after the announcement, the clubs Instagram page saw a huge swell of followers, and the comments under the official announcement across all of there social platforms went crazy. I expect a huge reception at Old Trafford on Saturday when he’s announced  prior to the Newcastle United game at Old Trafford on Saturday, which I am Reeeallly looking forward to. The transfer fee paid to Juventus for Ronaldo from United was just €20 million ($37 million AUD). Since completing his sensational return to Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo’s shirt sales have set new records for the English sides ecommerce platform. With a few pundits even suggesting that those sales would help the club recoup what the deal costs.

On 2nd September, the club revealed that the Portuguese star would reclaim the iconic number seven jersey, which he wore during his previous spell at the club from 2003 to 2009. Fanatics, United’s retail partner, has revealed that in just four hours following that announcement sales surpassed the highest day of sales ever on a single sports merchandise piece site outside of North America.

The first hour of sales alone surpassed the best ever full day for United Direct, the club’s official merchandise platform. If I could predict the future, I’d like to say he’ll be in the Starting 11 for this weekends game against Newcastle, but realistically I think Ole may bring him on as a substitute around the 60th minute depending on how the game is going. There has also been chatter going around the media that he will be unveiled by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson before or during the warm up, or they could rest him for this game and present him to the crowd before the game, as they did with Raphael Varane.
