Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United return

It was the day every Manchester united fan around the world had been waiting. 13 years after the greatest of all time departed Carrington the return of CR7 had finally come.

All the hype leading into this game and to finally witness the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to The Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford. Against a highly explosive counter attacking side in Newcastle United. So many sports panellists and journalists leading into the game had been saying “he won’t be the same player as he was under Sir Alex Ferguson” and I guess it was a fair take to have. Well, he went out and proved everyone wrong, netting 2 goals.

His 1st came right on the verge of half time after he pounced on a shot from Mason Greenwood that was parried by the Newcastle shot stopper. He followed up with a second goal in the 62nd minute. A quick run through the middle of the field from Luke Shaw before a beautiful through ball found Ronaldo who fired home from just inside the area to once again give United the lead. Despite his 2-goal performance his countryman Bruno Fernandes scored a worldie to make it 3-1 before a newly reborn Jesse Lingardinho finished the scoring with a neat goal in injury time to cap off a wonderful day for Manchester United fans worldwide.

After that performance, I’m really keen to see how we’ll go throughout this premier league campaign, and will the goat make his way back to another Ballon d’or award in 2022. After his first game, I certainly predict he will go close to the golden boot at seasons end and look forward to seeing United’s chase for their first title since 2012/13.

His return was absolutely the game to watch on Saturday night the vibe and support from the fans was something that a lot of United fans will not forget for a very long time. With over 70 thousand football fans at Old Trafford on Saturday to see the return of the Portuguese superstar, it will be interesting to see what type of formation Ole will use during the Premier League season. In this past game we saw him use a 4-2-3-1 formation against Newcastle with Ronaldo playing the number 9 role. You would think he would do the same for the game against West Ham next weekend.

Is this the year Manchester United end their long premiership drought? I am growing more confident as each match passes. I also expect them to go deep In the Champions League myself with Ronaldo back and the improvements made to other areas of the squad. Over the past couple of seasons Ole has brought in some good talented players and finally getting rid of players that have been at United for several years now.

This season is now make or break for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, to win the premier league with many United fans saying that if he doesn’t win the league he has to be sacked. In my opinion he needs to build the team to win silverware and building a successful winning team doesn’t happen overnight, it takes several transfer windows to get the players you want for the system you want to play. I’m backing ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson and United’s glory days are coming back.

This Manchester United team have the potential to go all the way this year. With Cristiano now 36 I still think he has at least a few more years left in him.
