Mr. X’s Saturday Horsing Around Tips

How Verry Elleegant was the Melbourne Cup as the Australian Horse of the year saluted after an absolute peach of a ride (as predicted) by J Mac. Our cup runner by runner write up pinpointed that she was drawn better than most had claimed, and she would settle more forward and be there at the finish. On the day, after seeing how the track was playing, she looked a much better chance.

In Week 8 we started off with a close 4th on Brooklyn Hustle where she was well below her best, Hungry Heart then showed she is having an amazing prep this time in finishing very quick for 3rd and if the rains don’t come at Flemington before her race this week, she is an amazing each way chance. King Magnus a solid 5th being less than 1 length off the winner and then September Run continued to be below her best finishing 6th. Written Beauty was scratched so we ended up down $27.

This week the Melbourne racing finishes up the Cup week carnival at Flemington with Stakes Day where there is expected to be some decent rain due Sat afternoon, but the track will start as a Good 4 and the rail is out 8m. Sydney heads to Rosehill where expected to be a soft track and rail out 3m. The fields at Rosehill do look a bit below best so we will stick to Stakes day at Flemington.

Melbourne Race 1 – number 5 – Hosier – $40 Win (Currently $2.05 – been hammered)

Team Williams have had a quieter cup carnival than usual, but they get a massive chance to go BANG here with Hosier first up, they will have him primed 1st up over 1600m. He is mapped to roll along without much pressure and is 4 from 4 here in Australia beating some quality horses last time in. 7 and 9 the main dangers but this fella should kick start your bank roll for the day.

Melbourne Race 5 – Number 1 – Nimalee – $10 each way ($6.00 / $2.60)

The class in this decent version of the Matriach, she has been in good form and on the quick back up here and is drawn to lead or sit on the pace and the rains if they do come by here won’t worry her too much as she is quality on wet and dry ground. Main dangers are 5 and 9 in an open race.

Melbourne Race 7 – Number 6 – Age of Chivalry – $5 Each way (Currently $14.00 / $4.20)

2nd up here over his per distance of 1400m on a track where he has been competitive without winning but gets the chance here at very good odds. Another that is solid on wet or dry just in case the rains do come. He was good 1st up and usually improves 2nd up dropping 3kg on that run and is mapped to sit in just behind the leaders or lead. Main dangers are 4 and 5.

Melbourne Race 9 – Number 14 – Duchess of Dorset – $30 Win (Currently $3.20)

She is airborne this time in winning her 1st 2 starts this prep in impressive fashion and times, sure she jumps up in class here and down the straight for the first time, but she has a racing pattern where she will be able to lead or sit on speed and pounce. Expecting by this time of the day the part of the track she is drawn in will be the best part and they may even head to the outside fence. She is on the way up and the worry is the butcher on board, but the instructions should be simple for him this race. The main dangers are 5 and 11 but hoping the Duchess can go BANG to end the carnival!
