Anyone else feeling like there is a total horse racing lull the week after the end of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington? What a week it was with 4 days of quality racing and some champions showed their true colours while some other highly touted ones went belly up bust.
Mr X’s first tip last weekend was a total BUST, with Hosier finishing last after showing absolutely nothing despite being backed in to $1.60 on jump. Then we had Nimalee ridden colder and flew home to finish 6th less than 2 lengths off the winner. Luckily our next tip Age of Chivalry was ridden exactly as predicted and saluted nicely giving us a nice return of $14 win and $4.20 place ($91 total). Duchess of Dorset couldn’t finish us off with a 3rd (bonus bet)
This week Melb racing heads to Cranbourne where the rail is true and the track is expected to be Soft to heavy range. Sydney’s race meet is headed to Newcastle where the rail is true and we are also expecting a Soft, possible heavy track which may see some scratchings on race day morning.
Melbourne Race 5 – Number 2 – Belle Plaisir – $10 each way (Currently $9.00 / $2.45)
3rd up here over 1400m and gets the conditions to suit where she has 2 wins from 2 starts on the heavy and 2 wins and 2 places from 5 starts on soft going. She is drawn in barrier 7 but should settle forward of midfield or possible behind the leaders with cover. 3 and 6 the main dangers.
Melbourne Race 6 – Number 4 – Bless Her – $20 Win (Currently $3.75)
Another who improves on a wet track, she is 2 from 2 on the heavy and 3 wins and 3 seconds from 8 starts on soft going. She was in good form leading in to her 3rd up run down the straight but it was a very poor run, but don’t think she has ever really performed well down the straight so it might just not be for her. She will settle back and be flashing home. 2 and 7 the main dangers.
Melbourne Race 8 – Number 8 – Indiana Lilly – $10 each way (Currently $13.00 / $3.80)
Winning form is good form as she has a hat trick of wins including a good win last start on a heavy 10 so no doubts she can handle the wet track that we are likely to see here. She should be able to settle just off pace behind the leaders and can settle back if needs be. Her heavy track record reads 5 starts for 2 wins and a 2nd, soft is not as good with only 1 win from 14 starts but this distance suits. Main dangers are 3 (should be fav) and the lightly raced well named number 12 Brawl.
Sydney Race 2 – Number 2 – Ma and Pa – $25 Win (Currently $2.90)
This fella is flying at the moment with 4 wins on the trot this prep and each time Team Waller have placed him really well and that can be said here where he is going for 5 straight. Not much pace in the race and he should be able to lead and dictate terms out in front as long as the wind is not too much of a factor for leaders he will be right there at the finish and be hard to beat. 1 and 4 dangers.
Sydney Race 6 – Number 3 – Kiss the Bride – $15 Win (Currently $5.50)
Has been building towards this distance, hitting the line strongly at his last run over 2000m at Rosehill and goes well on a rain affected track as well as a good track. Gets his chance here where he should be able to settle just behind the leaders and get a nice run in transit. The pace in the race shouldn’t be too quick so he will get the chance to roll along and build into the race. Main dangers are 1 and 6.
