A League Football General Sport Liberty A-League Womens

We Finally had some Football, So here’s my review

I know it’s only really been 4 days since the last live football game, where we saw an impressive Adelaide beatdown of the Wellington Phoenix and of course I’m not including FFA Cup games simply because it’s the cup and no one really cares once the NPL sides are out. To me it felt like an eternity, especially for this time of year. But last night after what seemed like an eternity we got an A-League womens game between Canberra United(Macarthur FC’s parent club) and Perth Glory. And if you didn’t watch it, you missed out. Despite the 0-0 score line it was anything but a boring goalless draw with end-to-end football from both sides keeping the action coming for the full 90 minutes.

If I’m Vicki Linton, the gaffer for Canberra United I’m very disappointed to only take 1 point from the game as they were easily the more dominant side and had more of the chances to break the deadlock. Michelle Heyman as always had the majority of the clear-cut chances, but unfortunately for United she was unable to take advantage of her chances. Hayley Taylor-Young had a chance later in the second half to break the deadlock but unfortunately her shot sprayed just wide.

For Perth Glory the chances were few and far between, but the ones they did have seemed to fall to Susan Phonsongkham who forced a brilliant save from United veteran keeper Keeley Richards. The save from point blank range was easily the best chance for the game but not good enough to beat Richards.

I’ve been saying it for a long time now, womens football is great, especially in this country but around the world. This season the A-League Womens season has dished out great game after great game. Even though this one was a goalless draw it was still an entertaining, and some of the goals we’ve seen have been phenomenal. I say it every week on the Circle in Rectangle show, The Liberty A-League womens game is just as entertaining as the Men’s and usually you get better goals as well. So, if you haven’t checked it out, DO IT you won’t be disappointed.

I knew coming into this blog it wasn’t going to be a long one, I really just wanted to talk about a Football game, since we don’t know when the next game is going to be in this every changing schedule. The only good thing I see coming out of all of this is; while we haven’t been getting midweek football over the holiday period, we are sure to get midweek games in the near future to make up for it. Here’s hoping this weekend’s fixtures, as I’m writing this blog there are no fixtures to be played in the A-League Men’s draw this weekend but thankfully the A-League Womens is stepping up with 2 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday. Hopefully they go ahead so we have some sort of live sport to watch over the weekend that isn’t Cricket.
